Winter Camp is over! It lasted for 3 weeks and in those 3 weeks, I was finished at 12:40. It was pretty awesome. Life would be so nice if work was from 9am-1pm. People would just be so much happier. Camp was okay. I got to know some of my kids better and I actually remember some of their Korean names. Classes were two hours instead of the usual 40 minutes, so I had to do a lot of planning to keep them occupied and the class flowing. It wasn't that easy since it's hard to keep a class flowing with kids who can barely speak English.

Things about being a teacher:

1. If you're a badass, I like you. I don't know why, but bad boys are more my style than goody goodies. It's probably because no matter how much I yell, the bad ass kids can always make me laugh with their slyness.

2. When kids cry, I really don't care. It makes me roll my eyes when they cry for something dumb like losing a game or fighting with another student. I rub their backs and tell them it's okay, but I am just doing it because I feel like I should. Unless it's a legitimate reason, don't cry in my class. I will only show fake sympathy or none at all.

3. I like gifts. Gimme gimme. However, if a student gives me a half eaten dumpling (true story), it will end up in the trash.

4. Teachers are biased. I try not to be, but it can't be helped. Some kids just irks me and it's very hard for me to take their side for anything.

5. If you try but don't succeed, I can tell. When kids get their test back, I can tell the difference between the kids who care and the kids who don't. It really makes me sad for the lower level kids who hide their tests from the other students because they are embarrassed of their score.

6. The behavior of some kids are just disgusting. Some are just plain assholes. I just want to shout, "Hey asshole, sit the hell down and shut the f--k up!"

I really try to put effort into teaching because the kids deserve to be taught by someone who cares. But it's hard because they themselves don't care. Same story with me throughout elementary, high school, and probably college. Man, this post is all over the place. So many different thoughts and no structure at all.
